Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews is still dealing with long COVID symptoms and Chronic Immune Response Syndrome, he said in a statement Sunday. Toews last played on Jan. 28 against Edmonton before taking a break to focus on his health.

Toews returned for the 2021-22 season and appeared in 71 games while adjusting to playing with his new health circumstances. He’s played his entire 15-year career in Chicago.Even after returning in 2021-22 and looking more like his old self this season, Toews frequently said he wasn’t quite back to 100 percent, and that he was working to find the energy and strength that once made him one of the best players in the world.Obviously, Toews won’t be traded ahead of the March 3 deadline now.

Besides, Toews has been great with the Blackhawks’ young players over the years and could serve as a bridge to the next generation — all while still selling tickets and jerseys. And he wouldn’t cost much at this point.Davidson said he expects a decision from Kane “soon” and he has been in communication with Kane and his agent. Davidson said he’ll work with Kane, who could waive his no-trade clause at the trade deadline, and do whatever Kane wants.

Time for Toews to retire. You can't play without the ramifications of Long Covid.

Hope he retires. He has nothing left to accomplish. Take care of his health. Get into coaching or broadcasting if he wants or pursue whatever else his post-career interests are. Love Captain Serious and don't want to see him with any more health concerns than he already has.
