In a statement released on Saturday , the not-for-profit organisation said the 98-year-old “has the full support of his family” and made the decision after a “series of short hospital stays.”
“Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter today decided to spend his remaining time at home with his family and receive hospice care instead of additional medical intervention," the statement read. “He has the full support of his family and his medical team. The Carter family asks for privacy during this time and is grateful for the concern shown by his many admirers.”The 39th US President whose single term ended in 1981 is America’s oldest living former leader.
In 2015 he conquered two serious heath battles – with doctors removing a cancerous mass from his liver, before successfully treating him with pembrolizumab to remove four melanoma spots on his brain.
