Expensive medical equipment threatened by Komani floods

On Wednesday morning, staff members at Life Queenstown Private Hospital in Komani, in the Eastern Cape, were met with machines floating in the water after the Komani River flooded, following extreme rainfall in the area.

Mathews Moavodi, manager of Life Healthcare in the Border Kei region, confirmed the flooding of the ground floor of Life Queenstown Private Hospital. "We would like to thank everyone involved for their support in ensuring the immediate safety of all our patients and staff. Our thoughts are with the Komani community who have been affected by the flooding," Moavodi said. The Eastern Cape department of health said the inclement weather had resulted in power outages and forced Frontier Hospital to operate using back-up generators once again.

We are working with the Life Queenstown Private Hospital and private ambulances because we are all in the business of saving lives. No life is more important than the other, hence we are collaborating to ensure that people in need of medical assistance get it.
