By the time she realized the mistake, it was too late for the Pearland bride to find a replacement.Her sister Temika Jones quickly transformed a moment of panic into a fitness challenge.Mika signed up for a spin class. She even convinced her soon-to-be spouse Lei Burgs, 40, to tag along. Lei, however, found sitting on the stationary bicycle uncomfortable. She got blisters from the seat.
“Throughout COVID, we weren’t doing anything,” Lei said. “We were eating, drinking and watching movies. It was a whole lot of nothing, just packing on the pounds.”What she did not realize until that moment was that her knees had been damaged more than she realized from a car accident a couple of months earlier.Hitting the treadmill resulted in excruciating pain, and Lei made an appointment with an orthopedic specialist. She would learn that the meniscuses in both knees were torn.
At first, the couple pledged to go four days a week. Then, after three weeks, they upped their visits to five.
