A new study discovers there is no data on how common types of cancer affect Black people in Canada.

There's no data on how the 20 most common cancers in the country affect Black people, according to a new study from the University of Ottawa’s Interdisciplinary Centre for Black Health.

"What we found is … a real gap when we compared [cancer] research within Black communities and research within other communities," said Jude Mary Cénat, an associate professor at the university's school of psychology and ICBH director. "Without research, the care cannot be adapted … [and] we cannot put in place prevention measures that are adapted to people from Black communities," he said, adding that there is an urgent need for similar data in Canada. The study also found that members of Black communities are less likely than their white counterparts to voluntarily get screened for cancers. As a result, they tend to receive diagnoses later, increasing mortality rates.

Ngwafusi said the lack of cancer research pertaining to Black communities is an example of 'data discrimination.'

Oh. My. God.

Probably because black people are the same species as the rest of us so one can assume it would affect them the same and scientists aren’t wasting money on useless studies.

I remember going for ultrasound and had to check my ethnicity , would this be a simple way to collect data if the issue data is not collected consistently

I’m guessing Cancer isn’t prejudiced against races. Now if only the media could do the same.

I don’t understand. Are we not all humans?

But I thought race was a social construct.

Brought to you by the people that ask the questions nobody cares about.

Is this surprising given this country's historical demographics?

Because humans are humans, there are many different types, and the effect everyone of all race and creed. So trying to put a racism stamp on who gets cancer, is ludicrous.

Gotta hand it to the blacks. They avoided the death shot en mass, and going forward they will need relatively less overall cancer and disease treatments because of it.

We also don’t have on how cancer prevalence in Irish immigrants, people from India, and hobbits. We have lots of studies on cancer, and how to treat it in all age groups, racial groups, and elf sub groups.

CBC is forgetting it's racist to claim there are any differences whatsoever between people based on their skin colour. Science deniers...

Is there a study similar for all other races?

We argue that we are all biologically the same with skin color differences. Does it not stand to reason that cancer would affect all races in the same way?

Cancer is racist

This article is nonsense. A meta analysis that doesn’t make a distinction isn’t “systemic racism”. VOLUNTARILY NOT getting screening isn’t “systemic racism”. My god. Just stop.

sop what you're saying is, no, you do not feel any shame?

The article is literally a nothing burger. I guess CBC had to fulfill their daily quota on stories on blacks, natives and muslims no matter how mundane.

STOP THE FUCKING DIVISION, ITS ALWAYS ABOUT BLACK AND WHITE

Can we give McKinsey to do something about this? I am sure many re$earcher$ and $cientist$ would accept government funds $$$ to this important research.

Race bait CBC defund CBC

“The study also found that members of Black communities are less likely than their white counterparts to voluntarily get screened for cancers. As a result, they tend to receive diagnoses later, increasing mortality rates.” - racism 101 folks.

Ummm your skin pigmentation doesn’t mean cancer will affect organs differently. Unless you’re talking about skin cancer I don’t see the point of this headline except to once again divide us based on “race”. The truth is we are the human race.

How about asians in Canada? Indigenous? South Pacific Islanders? Indians? Latinos? Any lack of studies for those groups in Canada?

Enough with the using people for experimentation!

Black or white are we not the same inside!?

Switching between state propaganda and tabloid articles about celebrities and made-up 'studies' must be disappointing after a degree and huge student loan in journalism. Like cops and doctors who expect the Hollywood glamor the telly portrays their profession to have.

BREAKING BLM New. Medical study that studied If a study on a study had been done...early results incoming from state only new funding can stop cancer being racist!

Know why? Because they would be called racist if they would. There are medical books describing how to treat different disease on other colour people because they react differently. This was all over internet and everyone was very offended by it….

Are there studies about how cancer affects white people in the Sudan? How would it be possible to have a powerful enough study to come to any meaningful conclusions? Use US data.

Let me get this straight... they did a study to find out there is no study, instead of just studying the topic itself?

CBC doing its best to divide Canadians.

Well maybe go off of US data.
