BREAKING: Man shot and killed by Riverside County deputies in Moreno Valley after family call for help

A man in his 30s was shot and killed by sheriff's deputies in Moreno Valley Monday afternoon, the man's family says.

The Riverside County Sheriff's Department tweeted about the shooting just after 1:30 p.m., announcing that it happened in the 25400 block of Filaree Avenue.Family of the man say he had schizophrenia and was having a mental health crisis when deputies responded. They added he had a BB gun and told dispatchers about that when they called for help.

According to family, deputies cleared the home before entering. When they went inside, relatives say they heard gunshots. "The cops have been to my mother's house so many times that they know he's schizophrenic," the man's sister Isabel Rodriguez said. "She disclosed to them that he had a BB gun - it wasn't a gun. It was a BB gun."

"There's no reason they couldn't have Tasered him," Rodriguez added. "They could have used a different kind of method, especially since he's schizophrenic."BREAKING: We will add more details to this report as they become available.

This happens many times in Sweden to. Many people kild by Swedich police

Innocent man. Sad.

Wow that's crazy hope they find safety peace and comfort and peace soon

Spiked-tipped baseball bat...yeah he posed no danger to the community

God bless the Riverside Police..

How many bullets? Are they necessary?

They call the cops but they don’t like what they do so know what they will sue the city 🤷🏻‍♀️🤦‍♀️

is this the man that was reported lost in san bernardino a couple months back ?

Why was he not institutionalized.

Ok so a man approached an officer, no matter his mental state, with a weapon and the officer took action to protect himself. The problem?

Schizophrenia doesn't make a threat any less of a threat. It's definitely unfortunate.

Negan?

It was suicide by cop.

That’s why you NEVER call the cops in that situation. If you don’t want your son killed. Crazy how people are still as foolish and naive as they were in the 90’s

FAFO

They’re cops not psychiatrists. If anyone wants to keep the guys attention while the Police call a social worker, then by all means.

I guess he won’t be doing that again! Mental illness ain’t no joke in this Country

Sad, but I blame family more! Knowing you have a person like that, why aren't they in a facility. 'IF' he had killed or injured anyone, would they be crying for the victim. Mom knew he was being violent. Person on camera even said 'tony being tony' why call the cops then?

🤡

Well then the family should have not let a person with schizophrenia out on the streets all alone.

Don’t blame the officers at all. 2 whackos just killed 2 deputies this year in riverside county

I don’t understand the the shoot to kill mentality when a suspects is not armed with a gun. What about shoot to injure? Rubber bullets? Taser?

People w/mentally ill children or adults need to introduce them to the local police dept. This information needs to be entered into their computers by neighborhood so they are aware & can be ready with bean bag guns or tasers. Police depts need to reach out to mental health depts

Shoot first, ask questions later

People with me illness can Kill you !!

1. I can understand the family’s frustration. But let’s look at this from another angle: what if the mother was wrong about it being a BB gun and it was an actual firearm? The term BB gun can mean lots of things and some “BB guns” look like actual firearms.

WTF. Who keeps a bat with a spiked tip laying around? Also, weren’t officers told he had a BB gun? Furthermore, why would the family keep those potentially dangerous items laying around with a mentally unstable individual in the house?

Besides a taser I thought officers carry other non lethal weapons like bean bag rounds to subdue individuals...

Just like the guy in a wheelchair, oh he had a mental breakdown even after stabbing someone... Is there going to be a protest and lawsuit for this as well

🙏

My sincerest sympathies & condolences to victim & his family who understandably was clearly experiencing a health crisis! 😭💔As for LE, kindly don’t be surprised if they get served w/ Lawsuit involving their actions taken!!

Why didn't family go inside and retrieve the BB gun before calling cops? Do we turn a blind eye to everything.

Law Enforcements help him alright

If they heard shots fired That was No BB Gun

BB guns can potentially kill someone… the officers have to protect themselves, and others from potentially dangers. If the mentally ill person was a danger why wasn’t he in a psychiatric hospital or group home that could actually provide adequate care for him?

Another leech gone

The officers cannot take the family’s word on the gun. Point a BB gun at cops, they have to assume it is the real thing. Cops are in the clear.

Mental Illness caused from the 💉🤔 sure seems to be happening a lot lately

So should have the cops waited for the suspect to fire to verify that it was still a BB gun and he didn’t switch it out with a gun?

I’m sure that he was killed because they called for help

Cops are crazy out here right now
