Lethal new pills on the street have sparked a major warning they could fuel Scotland’s drug death toll.
The specific nitazenes detected – etonitazepyne , metonitazene and protonitazene – have already killed 27 people in England and Wales. Dr Tara Shivaji, consultant at Public Health Scotland, said it was important to alert communities to nitazenes and make them aware of what to do in case of an overdose.
Top news stories today “Nitazenes are highly potent opioid drugs which can be many times stronger than more common opioids like heroin. “That is dose low, go slow, avoid mixing drugs and use in the company of people who can respond in an emergency.”
