“A lack of mental health supports undoubtedly contributes to a number of issues we are seeing in cities across the country,” Tory said in a statement.

is calling for a national summit on mental health, arguing that inadequate government supports to address the issue are fueling a crisis on Toronto’s streets.

“This summit must be the moment we start treating mental health care as health care. That we clearly decide on who has responsibility to do what, and to get on with doing much more together,” he said. The mayor asserted that a shortage of funding for mental health supports from the provincial and federal governments has shifted the burden to municipalities that are financially “ill-equipped” to address the problem.

“When people are suffering and unable to receive adequate support, frequently they are left on our streets, on our transit systems, and in our emergency rooms to fend for themselves.”

Closing mental institutions putting the mentally out on the streets is coming back to bit the city in the ass

Sure talk about overreach. Why not just convene a city of Toronto or GTA summit. This is happening in John Tory’s city my hometown. This must be one of those liberal ideological learning moments for everyone so make it about everyone.

HumeChristopher Pass that buck

Is this coming a bit to late ?

👀

Stop talking about it and start fixing the problem. You are well aware what the issues are.

How about stopping austerity? Conservative times are deadly and hard times!

Who's got odds on whether they go with 'white supremacy' for this one?

I remember when the draconian lockdowns began, those with common sense called this out among many other ripple effects of the radically poor political decisions. The sad part is no one listened. And the world will be paying the price for generations to come.

Physical violence is a CRIME. Not a mental issue. Check John Tory’s criminal background before being pardoned?

Not soon enough, I'm afraid.

John Tory blames everything on mental health.

You mean not providing sufficient housing, evicting homeless from tents, not offering enough mental health/social services, and leaving people in crisis on streets fending for themselves would lead to huge issues? Thanks for creating a problem in the first place, JohnTory.

translation 'Despite our best efforts to police the problem into oblivion, suppressed and marginalized ppl are acting out and becoming a distraction from my austerity and policing budget. Let's have a summit to discuss and continue to do nothing.'

1. Replace all medical health officers with people who have read and who understand the Great Barrington Declaration. 2. Bring in Dr Robert Molloy. 3. Fire Trudeau. 4. Expose the WEF. You can't fix a problem you don't understand.

Has he tried getting in touch with the Mayor of Toronto?

this is known as kicking the can down the road

Why national? It’s a provincial responsibility and they aren’t doing their jobs. It’s that simple.

Let’s bring the whole family together to help me clean my basement.

After locking down a population for 2 years. Denying them access to loved ones, discriminating against people and recommending reporting your neighbors for non compliance, thus killing the fabric of society, you need a study to find out why people have mental health issues.

No more consults. Get mental health workers out on the streets to help people in need. Start hiring people now. This wait and see attitude is where we are now

JohnTory has had 2 terms to address our city's social problems. Years & years to find new revenue, charge more for parking, add sales tax or congestion charge, stop pandering to drivers and the damn Gardiner. TO is falling apart on multiple levels and here he is in term 3. Ugh.
