The mass death of crabs seen in north-east England in 2021 and 2022 could have been caused by a never-before-seen disease, according to a report commissioned by the UK government

The mass death of crabs seen in north-east England in 2021 and 2022 could have been caused by

, a scientific committee assembled by the UK’s Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs has concluded. The committee found it was unlikely that algae or chemical poisoning were to blame for the deaths, as previous research has suggested.started washing up along the Tees estuary on the North Yorkshire coast and then further south in the fishing town of Whitby.

In October, a group of researchers commissioned by a fishing collective published its own research into the mass deaths. The team argued that they were unlikely to have been caused by an algal bloom and instead suggested that the more likely cause of death wasAdvertisementto research the issue further. The committee has now reported that no single factor can be blamed for the mass deaths of crustaceans.

It would also explain why the mass deaths spanned such a long time and the fact that other marine life appeared unaffected, said Horton. However, no direct evidence of a new disease has been discovered so far, she added. The report discounts Defra’s initial suggestion that an algal bloom was to blame for the deaths, saying this couldn’t explain the twitching seen in the crabs. “I don’t find fault with the earlier report,” the chief scientific adviser to Defra,

So sad...!!! I'm sure a solution is on the horizon...!!! Check it out...!!! Look up...!!!

Blimey, I hope it isn’t airborne

I don’t suppose pouring shit into rivers and seas helps them very much.

According to a probability calculation with no firm basis. The probables with statistics is that it’s garbage in garbage out, and they have not justified any of their numbers. This is a joke of a report.

Or an inordinate amount of unregulated & untested dredging material bringing up toxic chemicals & minerals from decades of industrialisation……

Chemical & plastics disease

They don't dare say what's really happening as their program for oil exploration is still in full force.

An unknown disease for which there is no empirical evidence that also kills octopus and kelp and looks like someone just pulled a probability out of their butt.

CHarri87 Is that the newly discovered “Dredging disease”.

COVID ?

CHarri87 Dredging in preparation for the brexshit freeport’s stirring up all major of industrial pollutants.

There is no scientific evidence to support this claim . There is only 1 known pathogen to jump from species to species and this was tested for and not found. They did find levels of Pyridine 7,000 x higher in the dead crabs compared to ones in Penzance.

They really think we're stupid, don't they?

A flawed report. Mass cull for money.

That's what we missing. What more is coming 😒

Much more likely to be linked to the government allowing sewage to be pumped into the water ways of Britain

ochnaw Sssshure 😉

A deeply flawed desk based report done at speed with no new research. Commissioned to keep the public quiet and dampen down outrage about the dredging in one of Britain's most toxic estuaries where they are building a flagship freeport. Science serving political expediency.

Isn’t it more likely to be down to pyridine toxicity?

Marine ecocide caused by dredging pollution in the North Sea from Teesport is an act of ecocide by the Conservative Government. It is facilitated by Therese Coffey for Rishi Sunak. Spinning the cause as an unknown, unidentified natural pathogen denies the science.

Yes, the disease of humans inhabiting the earth.

Crabvid?

Similar to white fungus on bats?

An 'unknown' disease.. riiiiiight. Nothing to do with the dredging of one of the most polluted rivers in England

giving me major death stranding vibes rn

Or is it the dredging ? Not sure when it started

What about that sub full of toxic stuff that everyone's afraid to mess with lest it crack open?

Oh no!!!!!!! That’s my favorite food source!!

Nothing to do with all the shit in the rivers?

Is there any evidence for this never-before-seen and still-not-seen mystery 'disease' which the UK govt seem keen to *suggest* as a cause, rather than the large-scale industrial pollution caused by the UK govt's favoured Freeport project which everyone else thinks it is?

Hope you don't like seafood then!

Disgusting, why would you repeat this lie. It could have been caused by Aliens, which there is the same evidence (none) of as a new unidentified pathogen. Whereas there is evidence of dredging which is known to cause this and it's treated as the same possibility as Aliens.

Defra's 'algal bloom' rightly met with ridicule. Their 'independent' panel (ignoring research) says it's a mystery pathogen. Nothing to do with the flagship Tory freeport which can't proceed without dredging. The marine ecosystem is the casualty, tragically.

Or from the gas that escaped following the Nord Stream pipeline sabotage.

Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science had previously screened for many diseases. There is only 1 known pathogen to jump from species to species & that was tested for. There is no substance to back Defra's findings or proof.

As quoted in The Guardian - 'The Report was met with criticism by academics from the Universities of York, Newcastle andDurham' - you know, the scientists who actually tested the water and independently investigated, but we're not allowed to attend or speak at the enquiry. Stinks

The reason why massive death of crabs is UK sewage turning Channel and North Sea into dumping ground

There is a book, 'The Coming Plague' about new epidemics harming people but animals may be much bigger victims. Starfish population of No Cal was reported be down about 99.9% from virus.

Were they vaxxed

So the unknown cause is an unknown disease? Pretty wide open there
