Gladstone Hospital in Queensland is expected to resume 24-hour maternity services in two weeks.

The hospital has been on maternity bypass since July, which has prevented women from giving birth locally and instead travelling to Rockhampton.

Despite a temporary doctor coming on board, the state government says the bypass will remain in place until another four permanent obstetricians come online. Queensland Health Minister Yvette D’ath has knocked back calls to resign after the state’s bungled maternity saga following comments she made about obstetrician-to-patient ratios.

Calls for Yvette D’Ath to resign as Queensland Health MinisterQueensland Health Minister Yvette D'Ath is under pressure to resign over her comments about maternity services. She claimed obstetricians were not needed in 90 to 95 per cent of births while addressing a press conference about the Gladstone maternity crisis. Data from the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare says 47.1 per cent of births in Queensland require an obstetrician. A poll from the Courier Mail shows 95 per cent of readers want Queensland's Health Minister sacked. off with her head! Ridiculous thing for her to say - driven by her desire to cut costs! I’ve had 3 children in the public system u are lucky to see a Dr. That’s what they need Doctors on hand. Any woman who went private ask her did she get her obstetrician on the day? ⛳️ hardly. Should resign over the fake vaccines that dont work and make people more sick than ever... There is a corporate greed and government collusion aspect. Same things going on here as in USA. Government/corporate/medical/media collusion & greed!
