The controversial National Health Insurance plan won't be rushed as the government needs an estimated R200 billion to fix dilapidated hospitals – money which won't be available in the short or medium term.

This is according to Health Minister Joe Phaahla, who reiterated that the NHI would be implemented in phases. Phaahla was responding to a written parliamentary question from EFF MP Suzan Thembekwayo, who wanted to know if the minister had considered not rushing the implementation of the NHI and instead was paying attention to the infrastructure challenges.Get 14 days free to read all our investigative and in-depth journalism. JasonFelix Eskom or hospitals. Who gets the money? Neither 🤣🤣🤣🤣

JasonFelix Is this post a joke? They can't even pay salaries on time, still owe SARS and the pension fund hundreds of millions and they still have to find R200 billion to fix hospitals that they allowed to go to rack and ruin.

JasonFelix Short, medium or ever. Fixed

JasonFelix Thank goodness even UK NHS in a mess.

JasonFelix What happend to all the funds made available during Covid? If during a pandemic the hospitals could not be fixed and communities' and schools' sanitation infrastructure could not be fixed, then when?

JasonFelix Imagine R300 billion went to building half-arsed power stations that make no power, whereas the same money could have went to fixing the public hospitals

JasonFelix So then it will never be rolled out, which is a good thing

JasonFelix Will never be ready because that money will always be stolen by anc. And the anc finally admit how dilapidated all the hospital really are. And don't forget the extreme shortage of staff in most of the hospitals

JasonFelix The government doesn’t have the money nor capacity to roll out anything. Will never happen.

JasonFelix Make it law that anyone serving I'm Parliament have to make use of public health services... no medical aid for private health care... see how quickly the dilapidated hospital get sorted. Like that's likely to happen.

JasonFelix It will never happen as long they are there

JasonFelix Why did they break it in the first place?

JasonFelix Saved by the bell. Most probably these bright sparks realized they will themselves have to go to public hospitals first. At heart they talk the talk on helping the poor, but they cannot walk the walk.
