Nutrition is increasingly out of reach for millions of Canadians. A massive patchwork of charitable organizations shoulder the task of feeding insecure Canadians because non-profits exist where policy does not. Opinion by Lorinikkel

The unfortunate reality is there are people who are used to standing in long lines in cold weather to access food. In fact, there are more than 6 million Canadians who rely on charitable food programs and it’s expected many more will turn to non-profits in 2023 to put food on the table.

There is a massive patchwork of charitable organizations that are currently shouldering the task of feeding food insecure Canadians, because non-profits exist where policy does not. They’re also expecting to hand out free food more days of the week and will require a combination of food and financial support to meet this anticipated demand. In other words, demand is massively outpacing supply for these non-profits.

Lorinikkel Many of these 'non' profits pay the executives and management very well. They're not doing it for nothing.
