The addition of the 23 additional medications will help treat patients dealing with lung cancer, gastro-intestinal cancer, thyroid cancer and other illnesses.In a news conference held Jan. 17 at Murphy’s Pharmacy in Cornwall, Duclos touted the federal government’s commitment to reducing the cost of prescription medication.
"Since we signed the funding agreement in March 2022, these funding dollars have helped us to remove some barriers to care. These changes directly impact the lives of Island patients and also the lives of their families," Hudson said. Tanya Vrionis, CEO for Ovarian Cancer Canada, attended the announcement and praised the addition of Zejula and Lynparza to the formulary, which had previously been covered under drug plans in all other provinces.
The Trudeau government has pledged to implement a universal national pharmacare program, starting with legislation in 2023.
