The unspoken State/Local rules here are as follow: Rules are made to be broken. Rules are for applying personal interpretations. Rule are for applying separation of power, for lazy civil servants and apathetic legislators to hide behind.
Ohio parents are forced to 'Voluntarily' relinquish custody for the sole purpose of accessing mental health treatment for their children; 2/3 of Youth in Custody of Ohio’s Public Children Services Agencies are NOT in custody due to abuse and neglect.
You can thank Obama for the horror this family is going through.

Please consider that every situation is different. My brother has lived in an institution most of his life. He is in a safer and calmer environment than a normal home can provide. He has a team of specialists and trained caregivers. He lives with peers, and enjoys family visits.

This happens to a lot of families who care for medically needy. It’s inhuman & unnecessary. Started by the implementation of Obamacare and expanded medical program regulations. MediCalForAll movement makes this worse. Ask anyone who cares for the disabled.
Did any of the people calling for Medicare for All read the story? This family had Private Insurance and Medicaid.
When will lawmakers get it (or maybe they do & don't care) that mental illness is every bit as much a medical issue as disease that affects other parts of the body? It should be law that insurers cover it the same way they cover other illness. No child should EVER go w/o tx.

Many people who have sick pets, and don't have money for the veterinary, surrender their furry family members hoping that someone will save their lives. First time I hear this for a human. It's getting worse.

The U.S. is the country I came to, and we have to make it better. It is both the most advanced and the most primitive. Where one will not go to the doctor because of price opacity and overinflation.
This is what has happened since our mental institutions were all closed down starting in the 1960's. There has NEVER been community treatment that was promised, Mental Health services is the first to go during tax cuts. This has been a stain and a shame on the US too long!

This is not uncommon here. I've had multiple dependency cases where high needs children were put in the custody of the state so they could receive inpatient mental health care.
We must end the minority rule of conservative psychosis.

It’s a tragic and awful system to negotiate. I called my state Medicaid to try to find a child psychiatrist for a patient. They were not able to tell if their covered providers saw minors or were outpatient. When they gave me a name, it was the wrong specialty in the wrong state.
I did lots of these cases. This tragedy has been going on for decades.
