As a lifelong campaigner for more racial diversity in the media, we are beginning to see change. But not all of it is positive. The justification for this is that it is important to expose racism and give voice to those hitting out against the injustice. Yet such articles rarely contribute to fixing the system. What they do is depress their audience into believing that systemic racism is so overwhelmingly endemic that there is nothing we can do.
