A brave mum hit by cancer is now looking to help others in the local community - after fighting off the disease.
Although Sammy will be on hormone therapy for the next ten years, she has finished her treatment, with the doctors "confident" they've managed to remove all of the cancer. As a community advocate, she has been working with other people in her area and set up a group called "Let's Talk Cancer." "People say that theirs has come back, so it put doubts in your mind. I'm just getting used to this new normality and changed perspective on life - it's still raw and fresh." Despite this, Sammy hasn't put her work too far on the backburner as she has just set up a new Community Interest Company, Darwen Community Helpers.
"One thing that I'm going to do, which is different from other places, is I'm not going to put a price on the clothes that we sell. So people can just pay for what they can afford, as there's been a lot of concentration on food with other places, but some people have said they can't afford to buy new clothes or even afford them at the charity shops.
"It's the money that's stopping me right now," Sammy continued. "I applied for National Lottery funding and they declined, but to be fair, I was asking for too much over a long period of time - but it's what's needed. What else can I do?
