CMO Bozoma Saint John exited the company, and ads exec Jeremi Gorman joined from Snap.Netflix's evolution from hungry disruptor to leading streaming service has shaken up Hollywood over the last 15 years, and as the company continues to expand its footprint across the globe, it hasn't been afraid to shake up its own executive team.
Former PepsiCo exec Sergio Ezama joined in 2021 to become Netflix's chief talent officer. And in the wake of Bozoma Saint John's exit as chief marketing officer, Marian Lee Dicus has stepped into the role. Netflix's global audience has grown to over 221 million paid subscribers, well ahead of newer entrants such as Disney+, HBO Max, Peacock, and Apple TV+, which are all scrambling to challenge Netflix's dominance and vie for consumer attention.
Netflix remains the dominant streamer for now, but a heady mix of competition, thin streaming margins, and an economic downturn have weighed on the company's stock price and prompted mass layoffs in 2022 — a rarity for the company. Netflix has expanded efforts in podcasting, gaming, and merchandise — and most notably, introduced an ad-supported tier at a lower monthly price as it looks to sustain subscriber growth.
