New guidance from the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends early treatment.Children with obesity should be offered more intensive treatment options earlier, including therapy and medication, says the leading U.S. pediatricians group.
The group is now advising pediatricians to"offer treatment options early and at the highest available intensity" for one of the most common chronic diseases among children. Untreated, obesity is associated with a range of long-term health problems including heart disease and diabetes."The goal is to help patients make changes in lifestyle, behaviors or environment in a way that is sustainable and involves families in decision-making at every step of the way," Dr.
This approach should be used for kids 6 and older – and may be recommended for those as young as 2 – and their families, the AAP says. But it acknowledges that this kind of time-consuming treatment is not universally available and is often difficult to deliver. After this intensive therapy, weight loss drugs should be considered for adolescents as young as 12, the AAP says, while teens 13 and older with severe obesity should be evaluated for
How about parents learning how to cook healthy meals for their kids? Chicken nuggets aren't healthy. Pizza, McDonalds, Mac n cheese, soda are American staple foods for kids. Food deserts, expensive organic foods all contribute to the problem.
Yea... Cut the sweets, salties, and everything in between.
If pediatricians ever want to regain credibility, they are going to need to start speaking out against industry influence over guidance agencies. This is embarrassing.
Discrimination against fat people.
Poor little fatties😭
Give them all trophies and incourage them not to try
Automatic malpractice
parents just need to be more vigilant and quit feeding them Ding Dongs and Ho Hoes ...
If GLP-1 agonists have minimal side effects and help severely obese children lose weight, why shouldn't we prescribe them? We have been pushing diet and exercise alone for decades only for obesity to continue to rise
Absolutely ridiculous to even consider giving prescription weight loss drugs to a 12 year old, or surgery on a 13 year old! Gee, I wonder if there is a reason this “new guidance” is pushing those recommendations? 🤔
Or maybe it’s the food pushed upon us by our governments? 🤷
parents need to weigh in, too…literally
'After this intensive therapy, weight loss drugs should be considered for adolescents as young as 12 while teens 13 and older with severe obesity should be evaluated for weight loss surgery.' You forgot to mention AAP funded by Gates, Pfizer and other pill pushers...
Are they going to do more than use the outdated BMI charts? For my height I could weigh as little as 120 lbs. I wrestled at 125 and struggled to reach that so I think there needs to be some updates to the chart.
This is going to end terribly
is fully willing to let highly influenceable children decide their gender and undergo permanent “treatment”. Why not let all the rest of these choices be made by them too? Remember, we have to remind these kids not to eat tide pods and to take showers.
The vile AmerAcadPeds also supports the dangerous MRNA-spike Covid jab for BABIES.
The ghouls of are now pushing - along with legacy media - SURGERY and PILLS over DIET and EXERCISE... For whom? ADOLESCENTS... Age 12-16... SICKOS.
Our children are like this because everyone is tired and give our kids tablets
They can identify as skinny
Better tell lizzo
It would be great if they would tell parents that they’re fat, and that food is intended to provide nutrients and energy instead of an emotional crutch for parent fails.
one thing a lot of doctors aren’t noting is that we NEED to be careful, because while obesity is harmful, so is the kind of attitude around food that develops eating disorders. kids/teens are VERY susceptible to these attitudes and we need to be careful how we talk about food
Shoot em with pills, get em addicted early, then pile on later in life. That's the ticket.
This is terrifying.
*GOVERNMENT-RUN STATE TV* “The solution to your child being obese is to get they/them on aggressive medications as soon as possible” I CANNOT MAKE IT UP
It's your fault sissies...should have reported factually on the fattening of America. Instead you pander. SAD
Processed oils, such as canola and other seed oils, and artificial sugars, like high fructose corn syrup, are commonly found in a variety of foods and beverages, including processed snacks, fast food, and sweetened drinks. These should be banned. Here's why. 🧵
