About 1.4 million Canadians have PCOS. Despite this, there is no cure or a clear understanding of the pathology or cause of the disorder. That’s slowly starting to change, though. And the research is starting to focus on the link between PCOS and diet.

“For the longest time, there wasn’t any good research and even the doctors themselves didn’t have much information,” explained Sana Motlekar, a Toronto registered dietitian whose practice is focused on helping people withMotlekar said that, for the large part, doctors prescribed birth control and/or metformin, an insulin stabilizer, and these were considered the only two options.

. “Because there’s a lot of weight stigma and fat phobia around the reproductive health space particularly in PCOS.”“Folks come to sessions thinking I’m going to put them on a low-carb diet, or intermittent fasting and then are really surprised to find out that a lot of the previous information we had about PCOS and nutrition doesn’t revolve specifically around restricting food. We’re more likely to address things like co-occurring thyroid conditions or insulin resistance,” explained Opthof.

Well you probably shouldn’t have tacos if you’re on a diet. It’ll mess with your calorie goals and they’re loaded with carbs protein sugar and animal products. So theirs really no diet they’re good for.
