Dr Emily O'Conor described the horror of passing patients hour after hour in emergency departments waiting to be triaged and not being seen, saying it is 'inhumane' to ask people to do this again and again

A consultant in emergency medicine has said patients and staff feel"enormously" let down with the overcrowding crisis being left to happen again this Christmas and New Year.

She also described the"other victims" of this overcrowding crisis, the staff who she said are"broken" by it. She said having come through"horrendous" work shifts during Christmas and New Year"you have to say how broken do you have to be before you stop doing it". The INMO wants Sláintecare to be under the Department of the Taoiseach and its implementation to be within the Department, she said.

Ms Ni Sheaghdha said they will be starting that consultation with members on possible industrial action this week and continue this over the coming two weeks. She said they stand with patients but do no accept the conditions under which they are providing care to them."We want them to stand with us and also raise this as a national crisis."

More nurs, less h.r.

Increase our population with another million.. that will sort it out.. then increase it again to support that million.. wait.. I think that's called a bubble

Imagine the minister of Health predicted this last summer, and it still happens. No leadership, no forward planning!

With the governments people trafficking still continuing it will only get worse.

If the bullfrog had wings it wouldnt bump its head everytime it hopped !

Just stop voting for these criminals.

I'd say the patients are more broken

🔵Ireland's emergency medicine staff overwhelmed by overcrowding. 🔵Consultants who raise concerns made to feel responsible. 🔵INMO considering action due to unsafe conditions 🔵Solution implement long-term policies and consolidate healthcare under one entity.

An ongoing problem made worse by the population increasing but radical covid cultists will blame people that don't wear masks 🤦‍♂️

All planned by the government, just like the housing crises. Perhaps giving medical cards to the welfare refugees from Ukraine will help... . . ? Time to begin building gallows. .

Isn't there a slight irony in a well paid consultant appearing on a weekend radio show, when they could be in work for the same couple of hours, discharging multiple patients and freeing up bed capacity for next week? The effect of outdated work practices aren't being discussed.

Some years ago I had a serious bacterial infection in my arm following radiotherapy. My GP sent me to SVUH A&E as a matter of urgency. I ended up on a trolley for 12 hrs when a nurse asked if I had health insurance. I had. I was in a bed in a room within 30 minutes.

They would be in the waiting room outside of A&E if they are waiting on triage so why is she walking through the waiting room?

Over 100,000 unwanted migrants were dumped into our small country in less than a year, of course there was going to be consequences.

Hard to get seen when our emergency rooms are full of fake refugees with medical cards coming in for consultations and to get free referrals to any service they want
