In the last 20 years, almost all of the mice and rats in the UK have gradually developed a resistance to a common type of poison which is used to exterminate pests.

The UK is currently home to around five million mice and eight million rats but specialised scientists have discovered the same gene in creatures all over the country. He explained: “Continued use of anticoagulant rodenticides against resistant rats or mice has serious downsides.
