An MHA representing Cartwright – L’Anse au Clair says while healthcare is a challenge across the country, things are increasingly difficult in Labrador.

Lisa Dempster, Minister Responsible for Labrador Affairs says they’ve seen an increase in the number of vacancies in the past few years, especially in isolated communities. She says they used to have retired health professionals visit and work in community clinics, but since the pandemic, retired workers weren’t willing to add an extra health risk to their life.

Labrador saw its first diversion of health services last month when obstetrical services in Happy Valley-Goose Bay were forced to divert to Labrador City due to nursing shortages. The mother from southern Labrador was anxious about the travel in the days leading up to her due date. Dempster says despite the diversion, the woman says she was provided excellent care by staff in Lab City and was able to return home with her baby after two days.

Only now lol !

It may be bad elsewhere in Canada, but healthcare is far worse here in NL!! A lot of this blame falls to Haggie! Over 125,000 people now lack any access to family docs/primary care thanks to him! …and you wonder why the ERs are always overwhelmed now?!!

Wow. She “recognizes “ the Healthcare challenges. What a revelation.

Breaking News! 1 out of 10 Mothers in Labrador unconcerned about not having reasonable accessibility to Heath Care according to Dempster Dumpster report!

It’s not AA missus.

Well you don’t have to be a rocket scientist 🙄

This government should be well past the “recognize” stage by now when it comes to our health care crisis. They’ve done fuck all to make any real improvements. I wish the other parties would get their shit together so we could vote for a viable alternative instead of same old.

What an eye opener..and it's TAKEN YOU HOW LONG TO CONE TO THIS CONCLUSION PATHETIC

Another career politician who is almost as useless as her predecessor Yvonne jones.

It's become clear that we don't have a Government here in NL. We have a group of career politicians who are mainly concerned with their own political ambitions.

Only now!!!! It’s been like it forever

...but do they recognize THEIR part in creating it?

Let's call a spade a spade. There are over 560 communities in NL. 500 have less than 1000 people or less located in the most isolated areas. The _nlma and govnl politicians need a reality check. We have over 260 Drs + 5300 nurses and most won't live in isolation. Regionalize!

She recognizes it but will anything be done about it

This is NOT NEWSWORTHY! It reads like a Press Release from a Minister whose goal here is NOT focusing on providing any solution other than to state it’s also bad across Canada & ‘she recognizes challenges’… Imagine That !

Oh look, lip service

New COVID-19 variant detected in Newfoundland and Labrador, has been in province since late November | SaltWireThey are still learning about the new variants immune escape properties, says Dr. Fitzgerald. 'But nothing to date has indicated that it's causing more severe disease and there’s nothing to suggest that the vaccine won’t protect against severe disease.' Omicron killed more people in Canada in 2022 than died of Covid in 2020 or in 2021. Yes, whether it causes 'more severe disease' or not is important, but the fact that it's more transmissible can mean it kills (and disables) larger numbers of people.
