Rishi Sunak says 'it isn't relevant' as he refuses to say if his family has private healthcare

Rishi Sunak has refused to say whether he uses private healthcare - insisting it is a 'distraction' while the NHS creaks under soaring pressure. Giving his first TV interview of 2023, the Prime Minister was asked whether he had a private GP four times by the BBC's Laura Kuenssberg.

The PM told BBC One's Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg : "It's just a personal choice. It's about healthcare, I think it's [something] that is private, but I think what people care about is am I going to make a difference on the things that they care about. "When it comes to the NHS, I literally grew up in an NHS family, my dad was a GP, my mum was a pharmacist and I think my track record matters more than these things. But what I would say is I want to make sure that we do have fantastic healthcare for everybody."

Of course it’s relevant. He just won’t understand otherwise how hard it is for people trying to get medical care if they don’t have the luxury of private healthcare.

If I had more money I would go private the NHS is a joke

The health care service he chooses to facilitate him doing his job efficiently is his decision. I’d sooner him or anyone who occupies an important public office be in work rather than at home sick waiting for treatment

I agree it’s irrelevant. Even I have a private health care plan, but when it comes down to it he will have to use the NHS when it comes to any accident or emergency, because private hospitals don’t provide that service.

Of course he has private health health care

Like any employee, he should be judged on what he's paid to do, not on how he chooses to spend his salary.

It’s not relevant in the slightest.

It isn’t relevant at all, he’s a multi millionaire so it’s assumed he would go private and take the burden off the NHS for any issues

Hmm let me think 🤔. He's an oligarch, won't say Yes Or No. Up to us, to make our own minds up 🙄🙄🙄🙄

If he says he uses NHS he will get slammed by people saying he doesn’t need to so shouldn’t be adding to the pressure on it and if he admits to going private he’s betraying the NHS 😂 why wouldn’t you go private right now if you could afford it? 🤷🏼‍♀️

Wouldn't you prefer he go private when he can afford to instead of taking nhs resources away from people who cant afford private? Just saying...

Well I mean of course they do have private healthcare. And of course it’s relevant. And of course he would say that it isn’t relevant. But we all have to play the stupid game where we act like we don’t know all of this already. 🙄

He can afford it so what’s the big deal

It isn’t relevant. He’s a VERY wealthy man. It’s assumed that he has private healthcare. He doesn’t use public transport either.

Totally agree, nobody's business.

It's not relevant, he's a multi millionaire and can afford private healthcare. Kunssberg is a useless interviewer who's agenda is out to get the govt to admit everything they do is wrong. She's a disgrace actually with her bias.

Rich tories don't care about the NHS because they go private.

Sad to say, someone in the ivory tower never knows how the public strive to survive.

Of course it’s relevant. He’s got private healthcare because he knows the public healthcare system isn’t fit for purpose anymore, having been run into the ground by the Tories. Nice for him and his mates who won’t be counted within the resultant excess deaths.

This means he has private healthcare. Two tier society.

Course his family have private healthcare. I’d like to say the majority of senior executives at businesses have private health care. Even I do 😂
