Seattle Public Schools filed the lawsuit Friday in U.S. District Court. The 91-page complaint says the social media companies have created a public nuisance by targeting their products to children.
It blames them for worsening mental health and behavioral disorders including anxiety, depression, disordered eating and cyberbullying; making it more difficult to educate students; and forcing schools to take steps such as hiring additional mental health professionals, developing lesson plans about the effects of social media, and providing additional training to teachers.
“Defendants have successfully exploited the vulnerable brains of youth, hooking tens of millions of students across the country into positive feedback loops of excessive use and abuse of Defendants’ social media platforms,” the complaint said. “Worse, the content Defendants curate and direct to youth is too often harmful and exploitive ....”
YouTube shouldn’t be on there. I’d argue it does a better job at teaching kids about English, Math, History and Physical Education.
interesting that Seattle blames social media on kids’ problems instead of bad and no parenting. Kids aren’t on Facebook. Their parents are —having affairs with losers from high school. Or moms have a live-in fiancé of the month and kids never met their sperm donors. Start there.

Teachers have insisted they know best for kids and if a line of action has occurred, they are responsible. Of course public school covid policies have nothing to do with it even tho is has been established. That lawsuit will backfire

In their mind, it's probably also social media's fault that Seattle is one of the U.S. cities where you have to watch for discarded hypodermic needles and human feces when you walk down the street.
If we can have an international social media day to acknowledge awareness of social media, the harmful effects and the positive effects as well as remind users to take regularly mental day breaks, then these platforms would be more balanced.
