Recent data from the Canadian Institution for Health Information shows that wealthier neighbourhoods in Canada had more access to virtual mental health services during the pandemic.

It’s well understood that the pandemic worsened the mental health of Canadians across the country—but it’s wealthier neighbourhoods that received more access to virtual care options and services, according to a recent study.that the mental health of those who struggle with anxiety, depression, and psychological distress worsened as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, with one in 10 Canadians polled by Canadian Association of Mental Health in July 2020 citing as such.

The report looked at trends of virtual mental health services across five Canadian provinces, Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia, between the timeframe of April 2019 and March 2021. Despite an uptake of virtual mental health care by patients of all income levels, virtual care was more accessible to those in higher-income and more urban neighborhoods.

Having a lower income is also linked to poorer mental health outcomes, influenced by factors like increased stress, lack of access to basic needs like food, housing, opportunities, and mental health care overall, according to aThe geographic location of patients was also identified as a factor in higher uses of virtual health services, with patients living in urban areas reported as using more virtual mental health services.

In fact, there was a 15 per cent increase in physician service offerings for mental health between January and March 2021, reaching 502,007 services, as well as a reported 16 per cent increase in physician payments for mental health services.

So the internet isn’t available in poorer neighbourhoods🤔

I disagree Poorer families use social services a lot more than wealthier people. They are already in the door for so many reasons so they just have to book time with a professional they need.

Er it's for all services so please don't make it sounds like omg I can't believe this there's inequity

Well yes that makes sense. If you have more money you can pay for the $150-$200 an hour private psychologist. That requires a study? I’m in the wrong business.

You really need to do a study to learn or know this. The money that gets wasted on nonsense, for something the whole world knows. Not sure how this is news. Can't stand media.

You need a study to come to that conclusion🤪

Whats the next headline genius's 'Houses wit h internet, more likely to go online.'?

As they should. These services cost money those that have worked hard to accumulate savings should have access to services. Isn’t our entire civilization based on this basic concept?

No shat!?!? Next news - when the sun’s out-it is sunny.

Of course they would, gotta keep the ones still paying taxes in good health. If you're poor and sick MAID is always an option because they can't afford to keep you around anymore.

My question is, why are wealthy kids complaining? They’re little entitled bitches.

Off track but same with the immigrants. They’ve always been allowed over legally and Trudeau thinks by being the party to allow these people in they’re in debt and servitude to him. When in reality he didn’t do that.

This is how the liberals stutter step people, they’ll offer better mental health online, so they give you a free consult, then make you pay after that. Making people think it’s been taken care of, when a consult was always a thing. Shiiid, give it a try.

Who knew people with money had better services which our taxes were supposed to go towards for lower income people which never happened. One free conversation and can’t call back with the same issue after that first call. Problem solved apparently

am i suppose to hate wealthy people or the mental health services, im getting confused!

Virtual mental health services? So the internet discriminated between patient incomes based on where they lived? 🤣

They also had a real premier who would listen while everyone else had a person that hid and did nothing the whole time🤷

Wealthier people have more access to everything did u not get the memo?

We need to yank legacy media entitlements then, and put this funding to better use.

Well ya. Internet plans are outrageous. We are supposed to have free healthcare. But exactly, only the wealthy can access it.

That's so obvious. Do you know how much internet and/or data costs? It's outrageous.

2023 & people on disability get 1k/month?! (disgusting) Minimum wage is 15.50. After rent & groceries there's nothing left. Health care is going private so those with money thrive. We did not need a study for this.

What they don’t answer calls from poor neighbourhoods

WTF 😳 is there a booster shot for common sense?

Blee blah blu blah

Virtual = asbsolutely pointless.

Standing on the sidewalk and complaining about lack of health care does nothing. The services are there, many use it. The complaining comes from most that hate their doctors because they don't prescribed the meds they want and say they can't get any help.

Hardly a surprise or news. Hope this study was free as it was a waste of money to ‘discover’ this info

Last time i checked virtual psychologists cost money. Did you know people who live in wealthy neighborhoods have more money? Jeez, shocking eh? What a study. Incredible work. Groundbreaking stuff.

only those that watched the media programming needed it

I’m only here for another ratio.

“Virtual”

What is it, does everybody have to run to a shrink or a safe space these days? Not only that but it's being called racist now? Can't be enough Alpha males and females left in the world, to many Beta's!

I have a virtual chat with my psychiatrist once a month and I'm not wealthy and haven't been charged a dime.

That is why children and adults who are in need of counselling dont get any. The rates social workers and psychologists are charging are way out of control- how many can afford $200 plus dollars to have someone sit and listen to you for 50 minutes!!!

Shit study Everyone has internet these days.

Not true. Those willing to pay for virtual mental health services did get timely access. Many people don't want to pay to receive their mental health services. The government offers free services, but they are not timely at all, very patch-work like.

another slow day

Of course that's the case. Total waste of a study. People get paid to study this? Ridiculous.
