Why isn’t there a single medical licence for all doctors in Canada?A growing chorus of physicians and health administrators is pushing for some form of national standard I'm wondering if there is a Canadian Universal License system for Doctors would that eliminate the possibility of a doctor who is barred, for example to practice Medicine in Ontario from packing up and moving to another Province & to practice somewhere else. Because healthcare is a Provincial jurisdiction. Also because Provinces are very territorial about protecting their jurisdiction out of a very reasonable fear of a slippery slope/Federal jurisdictional creeping. Same with registered nurses. Almost all Provinces and Territories require RNs to write the same national certification exam. Specialty RN certification in areas such as emergency, oncology, geriatrics etc is also completed through the Canadian Nurses Association, a national body.
