On the second day of what was to be a four-day trip, their 13-year-old daughter Maddy said she wasn’t feeling well and was going to go home with another relative who was leaving that day. They all figured she was tired.They went to the emergency department at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital and were both diagnosed with pneumonia.
“The pericardial sac was so filled with fluid that it was compressing against the heart. Where the heart was so big it couldn't pump, so she couldn't lay down flat anymore.” She spent four nights in the ICU in Halifax. Large amounts of fluid were drained from around her heart. Muise says her daughter is very med resistant and they figure she hadn’t been given enough to sedate her, so she had likely moved during the procedure, resulting in the puncture. The bleeding was brought under control but Muise says Maddy was put on life support for nearly three days to keep her still to prevent more bleeding from occurring.“The IWK was amazing,” Muise says. “They took such good care of us.
This is awful. The symptoms sound familiar, though. I can't wait until the day that publications don't have to pretend this poor girl's health problems are all naturally occurring and not related to anything. 🙄
