Like other northern hospitals, Health Sciences North says it’s up to parents to announce the first baby born of the year, though hospitals in Sault Ste. Marie and Thunder Bay have both made New Year’s baby announcements

It will not be officially revealed if a new baby was born in the New Year in Sudbury. Health Sciences North responded to an inquiry saying that because of patient confidentiality, no information could be provided with respect to whether a new citizen had been born.A similar position was taken by the North Bay Regional Health Centre this year, which said its first priority is to protect the safety and priority of patients.

In Sault Ste. Marie, it was revealed that Angelourd and Mark Ron Chio welcomed their new child, Aeron Marc Chio, at 3:31 a.m. on New Year’s Day at the Sault Area Hospital. “We’re very happy,” Angelourd said. “We definitely didn’t expect to have the first baby of the year.”
