The Chief Medical Officer has urged parents to keep children home from school and childcare facilities if they are displaying new symptoms of illness

In a statement this morning, she said they are seeing high levels of flu and Covid-19, adding that while cases of RSV appear to be decreasing, the three respiratory viruses accounted for more than 1,200 hospitalisations last week.

As winter viruses spread easily from person to person, Prof Smyth urged people to wash their hands and wear face coverings on public transport and in crowded places."As schools and childcare facilities reopen after the Christmas break, I am urging parents to be vigilant for symptoms of respiratory viruses in children," she said.

"Children should be kept at home for at least 48 hours after their symptoms have fully or substantially resolved."

is she going to arrange child minders for sick children of working parents🤔thought not👎🇮🇪☘️

Be your own teacher doctor nurse hospital save gov money

Keep children home from school. Stay away from hospitals if you need treatment. Don’t drive to work walk or stay home. Don’t light a fire during winter. And all this while these people bureaucrats management and politicians get paid. They get paid for nothing LeoVaradkar leak

I’m thinking of blocking this lady

NormaFoleyTD1 and rodericogorman won't be happy with this as they're not going to learn about the important primary school subjects like transgender transitioning at home

Divide and Conquer, that's exactly what RTE is doing right now because most of the parent's did not injected their children so the new strategy is to push more division in between injected and non.Basically like always the injected will do have problems but they will blame the non

Another government paid bluffer!!!

Insulting

And what about us parents that work !!! Obviously, I don't send kids to school sick , but with all the bugs and doses going around at the minute, I'd never be in work

Covid can kiss my ass this year, we all know it's a scam

Now if schools could just stop sending out threatening reminders about contacting Tusla over absences, that'd be great.

It would be Interesting to know how many people in the comments are immunologists . My guess is ZERO.

2 years of lockdowns for a virus that was relatively harmless has us in this position adults but especially kids need to mix with others to build their immune systems and build up antibodies so they don't get much sicker in the future ..... U would think the CMO would know this

She done not command the same notice as the previous CMO CMOIreland

She think of that all on her own

And what happens when Tusla are on to everyone about missed days

Don't mind the c

Wow, hot take by the CMO. “If your kid is sick keep them home”. No sh*t Sherlock.

Urging parents to keep kids at home if they have a cough but yet the school must report however many number of absences for the child to Tusla

Never heard of her

Yes be sensible keep them home if they are coughing a lot they will be sent home anyway if it is noticed. Think of other kids and staff

Anyone who works in a crèche knows this won’t happen

Just a week after approval for infant vaccines and booster for the over 5s and the propaganda machine are in full swing

il ignore this advice thanks

Genius absolute genius.

Not a chance. I'm not missing the pub to mind my sick kids

A head of a service that’s not provided looking to put responsibility on others rather than take accountability If they said, we have failed ye, this will help …… But no, they think they are infallible

Just what i need to hear going back to school tomorrow. Parents often send children to school sick prob many due to childcare issues Calpol wears off by 10 and then we realise we have a sick child too late by then we have all been exposed

Sort the hospitals out, government had plenty of time to prepare for this but ignored the advice from the likes of Austrailia whom had already gone through a winter from hell. Stop making it up as you go along and plan for a change.

Another day another crisis runs out of control while the Taoiseach goes clubbing. 🕺🏽 HowIrelandWorks

A few days after the jabs are approved for 6 month old babies and up The Scaremongering begins Sponsored by Big Pharma

For god sake stop this nonsense

Surely all normal parents know this already

Don't do anything your Government tells you to do. I don't and I got myself and my entire family through 2 years of a pandemic without any negative consequences whatsoever.

Nope

Here's an idea....Get GPs to do their actual job instead of just telling every parent that comes to them with a sick child to take them to hospital

No. Kids sniffle and cough all winter. Depriving them of further education after our shameful and cowardly school closures of 2020 and 2021, would be incredibly wrong.

Kids should go to school if they able. They are not to miss school to protect misspending in the health service. What an indictment on the HSE management class. €21,000,000,000 and they are asking the kids to stay at home from school. They missed enough already. CMOIreland
