Chief Medical Officer Paul Kelly has told the government he sees no need to impose restrictions on travellers from China but is still monitoring the situation.

Travellers from China to Australia must return a negative COVID test within 48 hours of departure from 5 January.

The Albanese government moved on New Years Day to require people travelling from China to test negative for COVID-19 within 48 hours of departure. How Australia's COVID-19 tests for Chinese travellers could delay Yolanda's family reunion Suggested measures included testing plane wastewater, voluntary sampling of arrivals, an increase in community wastewater testing and following up with people who test positive for the virus and had recently returned from overseas.

Mr Butler said similar measures will not be put in place for travellers from other countries such as the United States due to the timely reporting of information and genomic sequencing data.Professor Kelly acknowledged in his advice to the government that accurate COVID surveillance data from China was scant.

It would be nice if someone would kindly inform ATAGI that there is absolutely no reason to deny people who have already had their 2nd booster a long time ago, a dose of the updated Moderna bivalent vaccine. Absolutely pointless and stupid on ATAGI's part.

Really! The same slow moving officer to not move to stop Ruby Princess passengers spreading COVID (should have gone into quarantine). How about tracking cases & showing research that vaccines are useless to stop spread & cause harmful side effects ? No one listens to him.

Has he ever had Covid what an irresponsible person he needs to seek another job within the Liberal party maybe.

ColetteGarnaut He has to stand by his nothing to see here crap. Happy to let covid run rampant whatever the numbers are.

He clearly doesn’t speak for the vulnerable - of which there are many (please refer weekly deaths). He should stand down and go contest a seat for the LNP somewhere.

Monitoring the situation until it's too late, then lockdowns?

Albanese is learning from Daniel Andrews.

It’s kind of discrimination everyone can feel it

Obviously incapable of seeing blaring facts right in front of him.

a_liraza Why just Chinese visitors? Is this fair?

Hard to respect Kelly tbh after his incompetence over the past few years.

SBS What exactly is he “monitoring”?

Two weeks to flatten the curve!

Funny, most western countries MO seem to disagree

This may ,,

Not so long ago, this loud mouth fake was sledging Morrison for his handling of the pandemic....at least Morrison made decisions NOT worried about Chinese threats, but decisions to protect Australians.

Kelly sees no need for ANY Restrictions FFS! Living with Covid will need Masks, Iso, Testing, Distancing, HEPA Filters as well as Vaccines.

He needs to go

Kelly was one of the architects of 'Living With Covid'

He's right about that. But Australia has got it wrong for over a year now.

'We are monitoring the situation' should go down as the catch call of the 2020's......What a joke we live in.

No one in Authority has showed any Rationale during covid.

Is it the same variant as in the US?

Won’t be surprised if it’s already here anyway

But we'll continue to restrict a usefull plant such as Cannabis in the battle against Covid viruses ...🌱

And it's just for two weeks to flatten the curve.
