“It’s time — beyond time — for America to react with actions that will reduce the scale of gun violence in our country and secure the safety of our children,” writes Dana in Salt Lake City.

This year the New York Times Magazine broke with that pattern by reporting on the lives of twelve children who died from gunshot wounds in 2022. These children were boys and girls; Blacks, whites, Latinx, and one of Pacific Islander heritage.

They were from Philadelphia, Chicago, Houston and other large urban areas, but also from Minnesota, Connecticut, Tennessee and West Valley City. Their ages ranged from 5 to 18. The articles that accompanied their pictures related small segments of the lives of these children. Not their accomplishments, but their vitality, their quirks, and the depth to which they were loved. Beyond the loss of these lives, their families live with these tragedies as do many others that have suffered such losses.

One motivation for the focus of this report was the fact that guns were the leading cause of death among American children between 1 and 18, outpacing motor vehicle accidents, in both 2020 and 2021. Last year 3597 children died from gunfire in the USA. According to the Kaiser Family Foundation, this represents 97% of all child gun deaths among a set of similar countries.

It’s time – beyond time – for America to react with actions that will reduce the scale of gun violence in our country and secure the safety of our children. We can do this for the family of Paula Tupou Bloomfield Tahi in West Valley City, and for thousands of others. Please, let’s find a way.

Guns are not this issue, it's a people issue mental health being raised right with responsibility. That is the issue

The Feds had a Muslim terrorist on their list and couldn’t stop him from stabbing cops. But yeah, this is perfect 🙄

Sounds like we need heavier policing in predominantly black communities according to the data

Absolutely right, well said. The best approach would be to reinstate the federal funding for mental institutions nationwide. Remove funding for additional principles in junior high and high schools and replace them with social workers.

And more will die from the “depopulation” efforts and suicide. Stripping our rights isn’t helping anyone but the government turning us into China and arresting us for leaving our homes because of a scary scary air particle.

Getting rid of the Politicians would be a great start. Vote independent 2024

You can start with punishing crimes committed by criminals who use guns illegally. After all, they are the only ones misusing guns to begin with. Criminals gunna be criminals! Punishing law abiding citizens does nothing to curb this problem. And we all know that!

People make violence not guns. Gun violence is a talking point espoused by those who want to control the ignorant.

Democrats should voluntarily give up all their guns.

It used to be legal in the USA to buy a fully automatic weapon. It used to be legal to have a firearm in a carry-on on the airplane. Now, the more gun control we have, the more 'gun violence' we are seeing? Blame the Leftist culture and politics, re-shaping the society.

The way out, try God and not the Devil.

Three strikes your out.

Ooo, I want that purple one.

Guns do NOT FIRE. They are fired by HUMANS that are being released from jail daily. SAVE YOUR LIFE...BUY A GUN TODAY!

Of the 3597 how many were suicide?

'Shall not be infringed...' How about we start with addressing mental illness?

Yes! We must keep the kids safe so we can confuse them about gender and mutilate them sexually for twitter points!

I thought that we were supposed to defund the police? 'The majority of these shootings happen within inner-city minority communities.'

The despots of history applaud you!

In 50 years, I have never had to use my gun for protection. In this day of video doorbells, cameras and home security systems, that argument is pretty much mute.

Tragically, pathetically, children killed by gun violence is an acceptable loss for profits according to the gun manufacturers and their puppets, the republicans.

You mean so only the criminals will have guns ? Most people do not have personal protection squats do help.

Guns don’t kill.
