As the number of Australians living with long COVID continues to grow, there are calls for greater financial and medical support for people suffering from chronic and hidden illnesses.

"He's not earning millions of dollars himself. It doesn't go that far with the cost of food, fuel, electricity, everything," she said.

"It's incredibly frustrating to feel that there is no empathy or compassion in a system that we all think we can rely on," she said. She said both ME/CFS and long COVID patient communities faced similar problems in navigating and accessing the health care system as well as social support and care. The Australian Medical Association is calling for GPs to be given greater support to help patients with chronic and hidden illnesses to get the multi-disciplinary support they need.

If she is living with a partner she shouldn't receive any benefits. I've been out of work for 10 years due to an accident. I had to use all of my super then onto job seekers. Try paying mortgage when you get $600 a f/n.

Nor are most of us or partners Madelaine. abcnews auspol

This is hard both ways. Should a single parent still be allowed to get full pension and live with a partner because they are still legally single? I do agree however that proven disabilities should be able to get some support.. even access to their super?

Why isn’t she getting NDIS funding .........

Going by the sarcastic sympathy letters she should be sitting rags with dirty walls behind her .

That is something we were surprised at when we came to Australia as in the UK if one spouse worked and the other unemployed they were entitled to dole money as they paid tax like everyone else . Here if one works the other does not get dole . Land of milk and honey .

go out and find a real story of hardship, you don't need to look too far.

Long Covid = VACCINE ADVERSE EVENTS from the safeandeffective if they haven't DiedSuddendly

Partner income tests have been around for a long time, and the thresholds are pretty low. We don't need to treat people with chronic illness differently - we just need to provide appropriate support to anyone with disability, including disability from chronic illness.

I didn't even bother looking for government support, we are a white married one income Family. Of course your not going to get anything out of the damn government, but once they know who you are you can sure as shit guarantee they are going to find some way of making you pay more

Wow I’m on a disability pension all of $170 a fortnight my husband is on a average wage we survive but I’m not complaining

Sorry, but the world doesn't owe you. I have been out of work a couple of times due to downturns in private industry. I didn't qualify for the dole because I worked hard and paid down my Mortgage. Can't live on capital gains.

🙄 My wife doesn't get government support either. She has a job.

Six years of long Covid? Really? No credibility in this yarn. Six years, people, that's the ABC.

Something really doesn't add up here. Despite having an illness that prevents her working, she built up an online store and then sold it. Why not keep running the store? Sounds like she just wants a hand out.

MarieColemanAO I’ve experienced this myself. It’s so wrong.

Hmm given this is a story, and their normal AM serve of feminist news. The subtext is probably: Govt abuses females by making them rely on their partner.

Does the ABC want everyone on welfare? I guess it’s the quickest route to socialism and would explain why they’re pushing this Long COVID thing so hard.

Do not under any circumstance think MH gets the attention it needs. A few orgs get all the funding and it leaves NOTHING for those who deal with a long term MI. It's all awareness and nothing to fix the situation. Pls do not compare disabilities.

what is going on with you? It’s a constant barrage of personal interest stories from you these days. If there’s a systemic problem, then that’s news, and I might be interested in hearing about it. Am not actually interested in reading one person’s sob story…

Isn’t it time we were like other countries like even the US Pay benefits to the individual without spouses income.

Long Covid is also Fibromyalgia. Support all those with these crippling symptoms.

We should re-write the rules just for her. Her contribution to society is immeasurable.

' In sickness and in health', it's what marriage or partnership is about, we look after one another!

She has a home and a partner with an income, so of course we're not liable to pay her living expenses. This is not newsworthy.

Get lawyered up and sue for vaccine injury … ka Ching !

'Ms Lebski estimates her medical expenses alone have cost 'six figures, easily' over the past six years.' Dishonest to make this about long covid

She lives in a nice house and didn’t say what her husband earns, so I’m guessing he is on decent money.

Looks like she has to get a divorce or separation just to get assistance

Why does the ATO link my income with my partners? It’s a form of domestic violence by a 3rd party.

Were you vaccinated? How many times if you were?

Seriously abc you need to stop draw manning the left it makes us look bad

She lives in a gorgeous home with beautiful clothes. Her husband sounds like he’s on a good wicket. Why do I, as a taxpayer, who can’t afford these things myself, prop up middle class sooks?

Thousands in the same boat, many of them women with disabilities making them totally financially dependent on their partner.

These ‘invisible conditions’ are indistinguishable to … laziness

We see what you're doing .. Multiple posts across platforms selling long covid to Australia. We've moved on and you're sounding like a jaded ex at this point. Get better at your jobs. 🤣
