According to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, P-22 had several severe injuries and chronic health problems.
"Based on these factors, compassionate euthanasia under general anesthesia was unanimously recommended by the medical team at San Diego Zoo Safari Park, and CDFW officials made the decision to do so on Saturday, Dec. 17," read a statement issued by CDFW.

It’s tragic! Humans lured P22 to Hollywood via a bridge and then poisoned him, hit him with a car. The ones who claimed to care about this wild cat the most euthanized him. Stupid experiment!

We got off easy Hollywood Hills and other neighborhoods in Los Angeles. P-22 attacked a pair of chihuahuas in the city, but it could have been children. Do not encourage wildlife, wild animals should stay wild. Animals accustomed to people often lose their fear of people.

Probably what ended up happening was the owner’s of the dog that fought off P-22 was going to file a lawsuit against L.A. County. So all higher officials just wanted to save face they treated P-22 because it harmed their pets so they decided euthanize it. Sad but the ugly truth.

Sad, but the reporting makes it sound like he was probably suffering if not miserable and was given a dignified send off by people who legitimately cared about his well-being.
Like many others, as soon as officials announced that they intended to capture him after the dog attacks, I knew in my gut that this was the end for P-22. What a legend. A larger-than-life celebrity who brought the touch of the wilderness to Los Angeles.
