As a renal patient, I spend a lot of time in a hospital. In the renal dept. in our hospital, there has to have been 35 nurses rotate through. About 30 left in the past 3 years. Most of the positions have been filled. However, the level of illness is crazy. Always short staffed.

Don't expect any miracle here, after going through a Pandemic and seeing the misinformation which was being used in the health industry and Gov't. They had the staff at health units under there thumb by changing the rules as they saw fit.

Nurses in Canada are unionized & have paid sick time. Vast majority in Ontario with 5+ yrs is on the Sunshine List If you can't save Stat & OT pay for a rainy day, that's your problem

There are fewer full time healthcare jobs as they're being chopped up into part-time,with no paid sick time, no health, dental or prescription benefits, while they expect staff to work full time hours. That's the baseline abuse, add to that pandemic stress and burnout.

Canada is one of the worst countries about this issue: 1. No paid sick leave 2. Over time after 42Hrs/w. not 40 and sta. vac. and day off not countable. 3. Annual rise is such a joke: from 20 cent to something a little more!! 4. The employer is above the employees all the times

1950s - we used to all get 'paid sick days' but then some felt entitled to take them off on 'well' days - and that ruined it for everyone.
The problem isn't sick pay it's sick days. If I go past my 8 days here in Ontario, I have to see a doctor to get a doctor's note or I get punished by my employer. The problem is it is near impossible to get a Dr. appointment in a timely manner. So then I have to go to work sick.
