Waiting times for routine medical appointments are set to increase with the extension of free GP care, an Oireachtas committee has heard

"There will be significant more pressures," John Farrell, Chair of the Irish College of General Practitioners, told the Joint Committee on Health.

"We are in the midst of a general practice workforce and workload crisis that is getting worse," Mr Farrell emphasised.

The same thing was said when free gp for under 6 came out. It made absolutely no difference to wait times at all. It's the lack of Dr's and nursing staff because they have emigrated to better paying jobs that are the cause. Not free health care.

So are people getting sicker, or are we admitting that people weren't getting care all along due to economic limitations?

Should charge everyone a min fee to detract wasters and those in for a chat, the UK heading that way.

Doctors working for free..! Sounds too good to be true..!

The fact that DonnellyStephen couldn't grasp that basic concept, as he increased free GP visits (without consulting them) - shows how absolutely incompetent he is.

No one saw that coming

GPs are 'under serious strain', Oireachtas Health Committee toldGPs are “in the midst of a general practice workforce and workload crisis that is getting worse.” More people + more medical cards = more pressure. Keep the gates open tho it's not causing any problems in the country as you say Ah, boohoo. God love them. If they got rid of the medical card holders from their practice, then they could see the rest of us and charge €50 for a ten minute consultation. Work smarter, not harder!! Yet another crisis. Wow, Micheal was right..
