Provinces must commit to health-care reform, Trudeau says as health systems strain

“I would think that the federal government would want to be part of that and to contribute its share, and that’s what we’re asking,” Dix said.

“It’s always a new moving excuse, a new line in the sand that drifts away after the tide comes in,” he said.Imposing performance measures on the provinces that affect their access to the Canada Health Transfer is more or less unheard of, said Haizhen Mou, a professor at the University of Saskatchewan who studies health policy. It’s understandable that provincial leaders don’t want to change that precedent, she said in an interview Tuesday.

That’s what the Paul Martin government did in 2005 to address wait times, and what Trudeau did in 2016 to fund mental-health and home-care services in the face of similar circumstances. “I’m not sure how long they can hold out, because the revenue, the power of the fiscal capacity, is still in the federal government’s hands,” she said.Health-care advocates, including nurses and doctors’ associations, have echoed Trudeau’s call for a plan to transform Canada’s broken system and to do it quickly.

Dix said that can’t happen until the prime minister is willing to come to the table for an open discussion. He said Trudeau has not committed to that.

And what is the healthcare reform? It's Human resources and collection programs.

In other words he is plotting to bring private health care to Canada. By refusing to increase health care payments to provinces and territories , he is creating circumstances that will force prov/terr to introduce private.

This will hurt the Liberals next election.

Provinces are responsible for health care but Trudeau thinks he should be able to decide what is best for each province. These are the actions of a dictator. Pony up the dough Blackface, people are dying While you see if you can piss farther.

Covid was a good time to do it, what happens to all that money?

Wynne government did serious damage to Ontario. Healthcare money stolen. Liberal Fraud.

Provinces must commit to reform by cutting back transfer payments to pay for their provinces own needs and health care!!! Transparency and accountability at the provincial level rather than tax money just changing hands with federal imposed strings attached!!!!

Holy shit... Did hell freeze over? I'm actually in agreement with Mr Trudeau. Health Care reform, especially in Ontario, is something we've needed for years. Nothing will get reformed but holy shit, me and Justin just agreed on something.

Stop giving our money away and help our own country. Build more hospitals and hire more staff

What ensure you push assisted suicide ?

Trudeau looks worried lately. He knows the wrong people are asking the right questions regarding his corruption and secret dealings. Lots of denials from him and his cabinet. Maybe the TwitterFiles will illuminate Canadians to the real story

In health care, people's lives literally depend on the federal and provincial governments ability to work together, for the common good, for all Canadians. And right now, especially for all the sick kids across Canada whose numbers continue to grow at an alarming rate😔

Maybe take the money you’re giving Ukraine and spend it on health care instead of pushing privatization you clown

If they're going to expect that money is going to fix it then they are not doing their job properly. There needs to be an overhaul of healthcare and having a problem with accountability with money is bs. If you get a grant from the government you have to be accountable for it.

Ontarian here. Changes to health care take years to impact. This isn’t a quick fix. fordnation first term policy - enhanced by pandemic, created this mess. 💰 given now will take years to impact, just in time for next ON election. convenient playinggameswithyourhealth
