Nurses are due to strike in England, Wales and Northern Ireland on Thursday and Tuesday 20 December. The Royal College of Nursing union insists cancer patients will get emergency and clinically urgent surgery during the action.

In their correspondence, the chief nursing officer for England, and her counterparts in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, wrote to Ms Cullen raising a series of concerns about patient safety.

They wrote that"there are examples of some trusts being asked to submit derogation forms for chemotherapy and organisations now preparing to reschedule chemotherapy from 15th and 20th December". "This letter is already out of date, as we have met senior clinicians today and agreed key points. The safety of patients is everybody's top concern," the union's spokesperson said.

Lest we forget

So it was never really about the patients after-all.

Should not be allowed to strike army don't police don't do nurses shouldn't do they not realise the government are not going to change their minds they will just pay agency workers who want to work

They didn't care about them during covid

Given that The World Bank currently rates the UK lower than 20th in GDP per capita, why do ministers still harp on about it being the world’s fifth-richest economy? The great pretence that new money is to be thrown at long broken services like the NHS is simply utter poppy cock.

skynewsniall The strikes will only hasten the privatisation of the NHS

skynewsniall Wow I'd love these NHS pay grades

everyonetalks21 skynewsniall They should feed them all the claps the politicians and public gave them during covid. Surely they haven't used them all yet

skynewsniall ShameOnNurses

skynewsniall Solidarity to them

And the demonising of Nurses begins....

Oh now they care? Didn’t care when covid was here did they not one bit

Clearly the nurses don’t care about cancer patients.

There r already 2 many 'beyond saving' after being ignored in favour of covid - this will not entice sympathy. The waste in NHS is shocking - stop that & the £millions p/a saved from NHS enormous budget can be used 2 top up staff wages.

stop with the false narrative of let's find the group of patients most likely to engender sympathy & shame nurses. There hasn't been concern for 12 years as the Tories decimated the NHS, it's not the nurses strike that's a danger it's this governments policies NursesStrike
