Ontario’s Special Investigation Unit has closed the file on an arrest at a QAnon-inspired protest outside a police station in Peterborough, Ont.

In a press release, the SIU said the investigation began last August when a group gathered south of a Peterborough police station in a parking lot.

The gathering was organized after a QAnon conspiracy theorist, who referred to themselves as the “Queen of Canada,”Among the dozens of protesters, a 55-year-old man became involved in an altercation with a police officer and was arrested. The man said he had suffered broken ribs due to the arrest. SIU said they made “several attempts” to speak with the man, but he declined any interview and refused to release his medical records.

Joseph Martino, SIU Director, closed the file as the watchdog unit couldn’t confirm if the man suffered the alleged injuries within the statutory jurisdiction. The SIU is an independent government agency that investigates the conduct of officials that may have resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault and the discharge of a firearm at a person.
