This was announced by Health Minister Dr Joe Phaahla on Thursday when he gave an update on various health issues, including stability on the Covid-19 pandemic, the outbreak of measles and the rising number of laboratory-confirmed cases of the disease in several provinces.Phaahla said:
He said the age of patients across the country ranged from two months to 42 years old but the dominant age category of laboratory-confirmed cases was five to nine, accounting for 56 cases. This age group is followed by one to four years and the least affected age group is zero to one years old and this suggests that parents do take their babies for vaccination. Of the 137 cases, 98 had an unknown vaccination status, 17 had a history of being vaccinated and 22 were unvaccinated.
"Provincial and district outbreak teams have been mobilised in line with outbreak response guidelines and have implemented the necessary response measures.
