The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has rejected the increment of tuition at the School of Health Information Technology (SHIM), Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idi-Araba. LUTH is a federal government-owned teaching hospital affiliated with the University of Lagos College of Medicine. It was established in 1962.

NANS Vice President, External Affairs, Akinteye Babatunde, in a statement said the association had received a report that the institution increased its tuition by 30% and also suspended the students’ union for going against the increment. “After thorough investigation, the Office of the Vice President - External Affairs, NANS confirmed that the institution increased the tuition fees of School of Health Information Technology , LUTH by 30% and due to the proactive nature of the Student's Union, the institution’s management suspended the Student's Union.

“Section 40 of the Nigerian Constitution, 1999 critically highlights the Freedom of Association and as such, it overrules the illegal decision taken by the institution's management. We also call for the reduction of the tuition fees of SHIM-LUTH back to its previous tuition fee.
