Dec. 2, 2022 – Besides causing mental health problems in some teens, the stress of the COVID-19 pandemic also sped up the aging process in adolescents’ brains, a new study says.
These changes are “more typical of individuals who are older or who experienced significant adversity in childhood,” the study said. Researchers ended up looking at the brain scans of 81 teenagers taken between November 2016 and November 2019, before the pandemic, and compared them to scans of 82 teenagers taken between October 2020 and March 2022, during the pandemic but after the end of the Bay Area shutdown.
In the US, there is such a crisis with mental health. In order for them to offer patients more frequent mental health treatments, we as mental health practitioners need more government funds.
