Ontario Health Minister Sylvia Jones said the province has “not seen a mass exodus of nurses” – a remark some say is “dismissive” and “painful” to hear.

. Soon after, the Ontario government released a statement expressing their intention to appeal the decision.

“It was heartbreaking,” Marida Etherington told CTV News Toronto, nodding to her own departure from the sector. For nearly 30 years, she worked as a nurse at St. Joseph’s Health Centre in Toronto. “I had planned on staying at St Joe’s until I retired, that was my plan, at least 12 years,” she said. “If we haven’t had a total collapse, it’s because of the dedication of the people that are still here,” she added.

Is it true? Let's see the numbers

This angry useless woman needs to do so actual work.

No wonder Christina Freeland stepped dowb

Who cares JUST about what she said? You can add if it's true or not in the headline. Are you journalists or stenographers?

SylviaJonesMPP if true, why is my RN spouse working 3-4, 12 hour shifts at 2 different hospitals in Toronto. That’s 3 shifts in one hospital, and 4 in another - weekly. And, getting calls to work more! You need to get your head out of the sand, & walk into a hospital and look!

Sorry, Sylvia...I don't know where you are getting your information. Come with me as I continue my treatments. The wonderful overworked nurses are stretched beyond capacity..please give them credence!

resignonmass GeneralStrikeON strikeontnurses ontnursesresign This persons words are so gross.

Speaking of exiting, perhaps it’s about time SylviaJones exited along with the rest of the useless PCs

She’s in total denial.

Another Ford puppet, says what she is told to say. We need to have the virtual doctor appointments or more will be going to the already crowded hospitals !!

According to the recent reports, ONTARIO is the best province in the world and a leading example of how the rest of the world should be. All reports of anything wrong were fake news

So obvious SylviaJonesMPP has no integrity and continues to lie to the people of Ontario. FordFailedOntario

Do you think that maybe the government helped with the shortage by firing thousands of nurses because they refused to get the jab

You underpaid and treated them like garbage. Cause y’all are posers who can’t balance budgets. What do you think? canadaisover

She can say whatever. The gov has proven time and time again there is zero accountability for their words or their actions. She could say anything. No one cares.

She must have blinders on!

The massive disconnect is painful

Large number of nurses have retired and are returning to work as shift filers for a premium rate plus their pension

She needs a new pair of glasses

SylviaJonesMPP is tone deaf

How high on drugs does this woman have to be to spew such lies and nonsense! Please resign! Sad time for Ontario.

There is no excuse for your negligence! People are dying! Parents are terrified watching their children struggle to breathe! Waiting days for medical treatment. You put profits above lives. You are a monster!

How Trumpy of her? Reality isn't real cuz I didn't see it so nothing is real and I will tell you what's real.

How dare you show such disrespect to health care workers, patients and parents of critically ill children! You are beyond despicable. Take responsibility! You need to be investigated by the integrity commission because you have none!

Need to listen to the people who elected u.... obvious need for nurses pay and improvements.... ridiculous

Please read attached article. Then tell me if there is no crisis.

No shrimp

Conservative HACK!

She is a gaslighter.

And total bullshit

The lies just keep coming! 🖕🏽

Tone deaf health minister…constant clawbacks and pushing this system towards a two tiered system… this is going to be the future of healthcare if Ontarians don’t prioritize healthcare when choosing their representatives

How about this! Reinstate virtual apts with full pay considering we are IN A HEALTH CRISIS with our children being highest impacted. What better time to prevent virtual and cause a larger problem! Unforgivable !!

She has no idea, probably hasn’t even asked. Waste of skin…

For a world-class health system, Canada needs to think biggerAs anyone working in health care or trying to access health services in this country right now can attest, Canada’s health system is in crisis. The pandemic certainly hasn’t helped matters, but the truth is that Canada’s health system has struggled for decades. Governments at all levels and of all stripes continue to promise fixes, but all they end up doing is pouring too few dollars into a system that doesn’t work for providers or patients. If we want a world-class health system—one that rivals the pride Canadians have in it—then Canada needs to think bigger. Funding is important, and further investments are needed as we deal with rising costs and inflation, an aging population, and decades of underfunding and under resourcing. But we also need to transform how health care is delivered in this country so that it better meets the needs of people across Canada. Canadian health care is built on a 65-year-old foundation that provides public coverage for hospital and physician services. While this approach served Canada well when it had a young, healthy population, Canada’s population is much older now, with the number of people aged 65 and up set to make up 23 per cent of Canada’s population by 2031. There’s the havoc that COVID-19 and other respiratory viruses are wreaking on our health system and peoples’ health, the ongoing mental health and opioid crises, and a worldwide health workforce shortage. To truly tackle the challenges that our health system is facing, governments need to boost investments in health care and health research, but they also need to spend health dollars differently. This requires a shift in mindset and a move towards increased collaboration to deliver better health care for people across Canada. Canada must break down the silos i
