A CNN anchor praised the World Health Organization for renaming the monkeypox virus to as 'mpox,' citing a racial stigma attached to the previous name.

Senior medical correspondent Elizabeth Cohen and CNN anchor Ana Cabrera discussed the WHO's choice to rename the Monkeypox virus, going on to deny its connection to actual monkeys.

She said the"interesting" and"sad" reason for the name change was because"there is a concern that monkeypox, that the word engendered stigma." Cabrera agreed, saying,"Yeah, it definitely makes sense to change the name. Monkey has nothing to do with it.""Following a series of consultations with global experts, WHO will begin using a new preferred term 'mpox' as a synonym for monkeypox. Both names will be used simultaneously for one year while 'monkeypox' is phased out," the statement read.

Test tubes labeled "Monkeypox virus positive and negative" are seen in this illustration taken May 23, 2022.

Maybe we should call monkeys something else isn't that offensive?

😀😀😀. And now the reason it didn't scare many of us...we know how it is spread, and it isn't airborn!

A rose by another name still smells like a rose! So much energy and time spent on superfluous BS , we should all be ashamed of the shallow behavior. MEANINGLESS

Omg 🙄 CNN makes EVERYTHING racial. Just go away already. You have 25 people watching right now. You’re DONE.

Oh.....my.....but that changes EVERYTHING!

Why do we always have to rename everything to make it sound 'prettier or nicer'? It is what it is, a virus that makes you sick. Be honest about how it is transmitted.

Works for me. From now on I'll call Brazil nuts NToes.

I find that “chicken pox” is racist 😂🙄

Now, what shall we call the Swine Flu? LOL A disease by any other name would still be the same disease.

So ridiculous🙄

It sure does NOT ma my e ANY SENSE! Who is the name “monkeypox” supposed to have been “racist” towards(?) a monkey? Do we need to stop saying “dog-day afternoon” bc a “dog” might be offended? let’s all try to return to some semblance of normality & call things as they are!

Why

I think it goes 'right' in with my expectation of those on the 'left' changing the very meaning of everything else they can get away with changing in their ever-changing agenda. But... the very question 'what's new' opens all kinds of hidden doors in their 'House Of Cardboards!'

WHO - “Witless Health Organization” renames Monkeypox to Mpox to make it more trendy and accessible to the younger generation. The world celebrates. How about not wasting time on ridiculous rebranding and spending it on finding a cure?!

😂😂😂😂😂 Like it really makes a difference!

Lol why does it make sense to change it?

Comedy News network never disappoints

Why

So what are we going to call monkeys at the zoos, just Ms? Who but them ever thought over the years that the name monkeypox cited a racial stigma? These pathetic new age woke whack-a-doodles have definitely fallen off the deep end. However what does one expect from CNN anymore?

Useless trivia is what is important to them

still a pig 🐽

So democrats think of black people as monkeys. Really nice. Shows their true colors.

What’s wrong with monkey pox? Afraid to offend monkeys or are you racist?

We can’t upset minorities

Damn they're thick.

Come on you are a hideous monkeyphobe

Of course. Otherwise it might be offensive to monkeys..

Where does this come from? Why did they change the name from Monkey Pox to mpox? Who is offended and why? PutThatInYourPipe

Meanwhile in China...

Next time I go to the zoo, I'm going to see the 'M's' first

Is it because 'monkey' is a derogatory term for a black person and to call it monkey pox is racist against blacks, is that what she's going for, to find racism where there isn't any?

why is monkey pox racist ?

No agenda here folks. Nothing to see, move along

Just another example of Marxist rewriting history and definition

If you think of black people when you hear “monkey”, you are the racist.

Only if when you hear “monkey” you think of race. Now THAT’S racist!

Absolutely! I was thrilled to hear this news tonight!

Donkeypox is rampant

🤮🤮🤮

Most fox viewers don't even believe it's real. Why do you care what they call it?

A pox by any other name is still a pox! Lol

How many monkeys were offended?

Concerned about offending someone, public schools everywhere will be changing the name of this contraption to M-Bars.

What a joke!

Mmmpox Doop doop Mmmmpox

Why are people still allowed to call monkeys 'monkeys'? Isn't that 'problematic'? Wouldn't it 'make sense' to change their name?

cnn It should have been renamed Schlong COVID. If gay people quit having butt sex in the Starbucks parking lot, monkeypox would disappear.

That’s some hard hitting journalism right there. NOT!

Who is actually offended by monkey pox and why ?

Chicken Pox should be renamed to Fowl Rash

Mpox are gone or at least until next pride month

Lancelot Link pox.

Payed to lie & make fake news 😤

Yep flying monkeys were offended 🤣🤣🤣

it's gay pox

Tell me black people are the first thing you think of when you hear the word “monkey” without telling me you think of black people when you hear “monkey”

Why is Monkey pox red changing?Did originally come from Monkeys? But

Monkey Pox was clearly objectionable to monkeys.

Their logic is what

I didn’t know anyone still watched CNN

Makes more sense to change CNN to GFY.

Would make more sense to rename CNN as Cartoon Network

Are the Monkeys now an electoral group the Democrats are concerned about? 🤣

Why?

Monkey pox, monkey pox, monkey pox, monkey pox.. yep its STILL MONKEY POX
