The FDA on Tuesday approved Hemgenix, a new drug to treat hemophilia. Manufacturer CSL Behring set the price at $3.5 million per treatment, making it the most expensive drug in the world.

Hemgenix is a gene therapy to treat adults with hemophilia B, a genetic bleeding disorder in which people do not produce a protein needed to create blood clots. About 1 in 40,000 people have the disease, most of whom are men. Typical treatment requires routine intravenous infusions to maintain sufficient levels of the missing or deficient clotting factor, but the new gene therapy is meant to be a one-time IV infusion.

“Today’s approval provides a new treatment option for patients with Hemophilia B and represents important progress in the development of innovative therapies for those experiencing a high burden of disease associated with this form of hemophilia.” The Institute for Clinical and Economic Review, an independent nonprofit research organization that analyzes the value of prescription drugs and other medical products, confirmed for CNN that Hemgenix is now the most expensive drug in the world.

It is a billionaire only treatment drug.

I call for reform. The Big Pharma industry time and time again neglects natural medicines when all they can offer are drugs.

Seriously! 3.5 million! Well, it’s good news but the price is ridiculous!

You better dead than alive! Ridiculous times!

So, they found a cure for 99% of hemophilia-B patients, which takes ONE HOUR to administer & betters the rest of that person's life. How many rich hemophiliac-B patients are there for the company to think they would even get this amount?

It seems about right. The UK royal family, fortunately, is the group that can not only afford it but also benefits from it because of the high rate of hemophilia caused by years of inbreeding.

Is it made from a meteorite ? This kind of pricing should be outlawed for any medicine.

I can already see people throwing clots and dying from this. $50 in product, $3.5 mil to treat...good ole big pharma. Legal crooks.

Hemophilliacs will now pass their genes on to future generations.

Wow. Disgusting.

Pay or die.

Oh ffs. There’s what, 10 people who can afford this?

Medicine for the ultra rich

What does the the generic cost?

This is why pharmaceutical companies don't want marijuana legalized, because of the money they make on their own chemicals.

Who would spend that amount. Maybe being considerate would make the world a better place

That is obscene. Justify that cost

Just give them the covid shot...it's free

Well, do you want to be treated or not?

A small price to pay for protecting even 1 child from abuse

$3.5M gene therapy for hemophilia gets FDA approvalU.S. health regulators on Tuesday approved the first gene therapy for hemophilia, a $3.5 million one-time treatment for the blood-clotting disorder. The Food and Drug Administration cleared Hemgenix, an IV treatment for adults with hemophilia B, the less common form of the genetic disorder which primarily affects men. Drugmaker CSL Behring announced the $3.5 million price tag shortly after the FDA approval, saying its drug would ultimately reduce health care costs because patients would have fewer bleeding incidents and need fewer clotting treatments. What century is it? Or is this medicine for “refugees”? Isn’t that a coincidence.
