A Canadian Senator has introduced legislation that, if passed, would require warning labels on alcohol similar to those on cigarettes, cautioning consumers about a link with cancer. ottnews cdnpoli

earlier this month. The bill, called “An Act to amend the Food and Drugs Act ” would, if passed, require all products containing 1.1 per cent alcohol by volume or more be labelled with a message that describes the causal link between alcohol consumption and the development of fatal cancers.

“This is not reinventing the wheel. We went through this process with tobacco companies,” he said. “It’s just so that consumers know that what they’re consuming is causing cancer because the science and the research, certainly in the last decade or so, suggest that.”in New Zealand, published in the journal Addiction, found that there is strong evidence of that alcohol consumption causes cancers of the liver, colon, and rectum, three types of throat related cancers , and female breast cancer.

The bill only addresses alcohol’s link to cancer, but Brazeau says there are many other societal issues attributed to alcohol and substance abuse disorder.

C'mon...it's not like alcohol is a covid vaccine.

Lol nanny state continues…

Waste of money

A large bottle of hard liquor can kill a person. There should be much stronger labeling on alcohol .

Oh ffs

I see nothing wrong with warning labels being placed on alcohol. If the science is there, then by all means. Not sure what all the fuss is about?

Holy fuck what a waste of resources. We know it’s bad, just like cola, mcdicks, chips, cigarettes. Let the people decide, plus in most parts of Canada, alcohol funds public services. We should drink more to fix our healthcare system lol.

Easy for a senator to introduce anything but there is tons of work required to get this in place which they dont see. What about labels on McDo saying youll get fat? On hockey skates indicating youll fall? But no restrictions on how many pot shop can open in a city?

What about warning labels on experimental drugs injected into 90% of the population?

Yeah we should also put labels on knifes and spoons that they could make people fat.

Oh boy, scarey, so scarey, run for your lives people, we are all stupid and cannot think for ourselves, the Government shall save us from free thinking, they have all the answers, they are the elite, so we must believe them! gawd think for yourselves folks!

No other priorities Senator? 🤦‍♂️

Just another waste of money people still smoke and people will still drink.

Will this ease the government’s conscience about the billions they collect in taxes from liquor sales 🤡

For the love of god! They have to ruin everything.

We don’t need a nanny state, we need a damn government that’s actually will stop spending like drunken sailors and start growing the economy and take care of real problems

Really? Why not put warning on soft drinks, processed foods, meats… etc?

Let’s start by requiring liquor stores to have posters warning of the risks.

why this incessant desire to treat people like babies...teach this shit in school and b done with it

Do pot too before it’s too late.

Titter is propaganda and lies or is that redundant.

Don't drink, don't smoke, don't fool around...you won't live any longer but it will seem like you did!

Waste of time and money. It can’t be anything useful. Ever!

Should have happened a long time ago. Hopefully this goes through.

Good Job Senator Brazeau senatorbrazeau. My Pet peeve with labels? They should include sugar content for Diabetics like me.

Here we go, the Nanny politician at their best...
