Mimi Parker, known for her chilling vocals and sparse drumming in the rock band Low, died on Saturday.

, died on Saturday. She was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2020.

"Friends, it's hard to put the universe into language and into a short message," the band's official Twitter accounton Sunday morning."She passed away last night, surrounded by family and love, including yours. Keep her name close and sacred. Share this moment with someone who needs you. Love is indeed the most important thing."

Formed in 1993 by Parker and her husband Alan Sparhawk in Duluth, Minn., Low emerged as a crucial group in what would come to be defined as the decade's slowcore movement. Known for its beautifully simple, droning and dark instrumentals, the band was anchored by the delicate vocal harmonies of its central couple, which could cut through even the harshest noise.

Low 'Just Make It Stop' - Pitchfork Music Festival 2013

This is a total bummer. 😓

💖💖💖

My band played a show with them in the late 90s in upstate NY. Remember talking to them about their record, how they got a bass drum sound by using a mallet on an empty clothes dryer. 🙏🏼
