Lakeridge Health says they’re still struggling with critical staffing shortages in their emergency departments and high patient volumes.

The hospital network released a joint statement with Durham paramedics Saturday, warning the two factors are impacting overall wait times for less acute patients and some ambulance offload times. They say call 911 or go to the emergency department if it’s a medical emergency that poses an immediate threat to life where rapid medical intervention is critical and needed right away. Life-threatening conditions include unconsciousness, trouble breathing, lack of pulse, chest pain or discomfort, shortness of breath or dizziness, severe bleeding and other serious trauma conditions.

If you show up at a Lakeridge Health emergency department with a life-threatening condition or are in a situation that poses a sudden threat to your life, you will be cared for immediately. If your situation is less urgent and does not require immediate medical intervention, Lakeridge Health and paramedics recommend considering other options, such as urgent care, walk-in clinics, primary care and/or virtual care options. Climate Changed: Canada's health system isn't ready for new reality, say doctorsA Canadian policy brief says the health-care system has the potential to increase resilience to such extreme heat and other climate-related health risks, but it's far from ready, especially given the COVID-19 pandemic. You got that one right, the only heath care workers left are the constantly infected vaccinated workers. Funny how the health care climate changed when they were coerced into getting the jab. You can blame it on Climate Change or admit its poor planning and an inability to adapt to changing conditions. Time to quit using the Climate as an excuse for incompetence, but then everyone does it don’t they! BC isn't in a position to respond to the usual health risks and hasn't been in a position to respond adequately to the pandemic. There's no point in discussing whatever else we need to be in a position to tackle. First, you need a functioning health care system.
