Federal Health Minister Mark Butler acknowledges a 'very challenging' situation as diabetes patients are prioritised amid a global shortage of two popular drugs.

abc.net.au/news/health-minister-responds-to-ozempic-trulicity-shortage/101562418As weight-loss patients and people with type 2 diabetes compete for two popular drugs that are in short supply, federal Health Minister Mark Butler has acknowledged it is a "very challenging" situation.

The shortage of Ozempic has led to a shortage of the only other approved drug in its class, Trulicity. The Therapeutic Goods Administration has approved supply of overseas alternatives for both medicines to reduce impact, according to the minister.

What's wrong if weight loss patients use it. Might mean they get to avoid diabetes 😂

am type 2 diabetic. I am at the limit if drugs. It works in turning off the eat switch. That why its a popular weight loss aid. I cant get it. So I am now going to ask to go on insulin. My fasting sugars this morning was 9.7. and its nothing to hit 20

As a diabetic who has not had Trulicity for 7 weeks this is now impacting my health, this then puts pressure on so many things, all costing $$$

Can't fat shits just eat less, and leave the medication for people who need it?

I'm in Bunbury WA, and can't get it anywhere.

Erm, obesity is the 1 risk-factor for type 2 diabetes......

Because of some doctors and specialists committing fraud through Medicare.

Ive been off my trulicity aa a t2d for 5 weeks, with my chemist saying after December its a bit late to make this kind of exclusion and it was never a hard thing to manage in the first place ppl wirh ndss cards get priority. QED

All perfectly reasonable! People need help to lose weight. We must never judge others!

As a diabetic and a user of this medication, I can not get it anywhere and have run out because of the mis appropriate usage

Why the heck are people using it for weight loss being prescribed it in the first place when it's not approved for that use? Surely GPs should be answerable for this?

Praps the fatties could just stop eating.

Good, diabetes patients may be able to get it more regularly

Telehealth and digital health services are ‘efficient and cost-effective’InstantScripts Chief Operating Officer Richard Skimin says telehealth and other digital healthcare services provide an “alternative way to access primary healthcare” that is more “efficient and cost-effective than the traditional channels out there”. “What we’ve seen now from the primary healthcare community is more and more acceptance of telehealth and digital healthcare services as legitimate ways to access primary healthcare,” Mr Skimin told Sky News Australia. They sure do ! Teli-Health and E:Scipts etc are a fundamental way to help our underpaid, understaffed and over worked GP;s address Australian's medical issues!! Why? Because apart from Abbott nobody from all sides of politics gives a Damned.. No mention of positive health outcomes for patients. Just another layer of health care administrators clipping the ticket. Nailed, a Telehealth Appointment (online, with paid advice), with a Dr and patient, with the Dr providing correct and useful information can progress the health of the patient more progressively, than having to get the run around for face-to-face appointments. Just my thoughts.
