ICYMI: Alberta COVID hospitalizations on rise as flu season sets in yyc COVID19AB

Jenne said the silver lining in the numbers is that while severe infections are rising, there hasn’t been a dramatic spike, similar to what took place in the province over the past several years. He said that appears to mainly be due to high vaccination rates helping to stop hospitalizations.Article content

AHS data posted online shows there are currently 179 people in ICU, while a recently added 50 intensive-care beds means there is capacity for 223 people to be treated in such spaces across the province. The latest data come with colder weather and influenza season around the corner. Alberta Health Services spokesman Kerry Williamson said that while the flu season has been mild over the past several years, it is reasonable to predict a more robust season this year, similar to what occurred before the COVID-19 pandemic.
