Premier-designate seeks Brooks-Medicine Hat seat, leaves Calgary-Elbow vacant

The newly elected leader of the United Conservative Party plans to take over the constituency after Michaela Frey resigned from the post this week.

“There may be other candidates who are also stepping away and so I think I think rather than have a rolling series of by-elections, we may as well just stick with the convention of having the adjacent MLA take care of the issues in the riding and we'll stick with the fixed election date.”“Danielle Smith has chosen to hide from the voters of Calgary-Elbow. Not only is she refusing to run there, Smith is denying the opportunity for ANYONE to contest the vacant seat,” Notley said.

“This is cowardly and it's undemocratic. It is a direct violation … of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, which outlines the democratic rights that Canadians have the right to vote and the right to stand for public office.” “I'm prepared to travel a lot and be in communities a lot and do town halls a lot and reach out a lot,” Smith said.

I don't want her in my riding

I met her, in Medicine Hat Hotel, when she was running for leader of Wildrose, turned me off then, still don’t like her.

She is not an MLA..should not have been in the race for leader

Coward.

I have a rule that if you don't live in my riding I don't vote for you. That's why I did not vote for Danielle Smith when she ran in my riding. She moved to High River after.

I can understand Danielle Smith wanting to run in what they see as a sure fire win seat that's politics but refusing to call a byelection at the same time in an already vacant seat is something else. Cowards will be cowards.

Because she is Scared to. Nuff Said.

It doesn’t matter where her seat is, as long as she does what she said she would do.

She's a coward. Doesn't want to run in a Calgary riding because she knows that she'll lose. Hopefully she loses Medicine Hat. That would be absolutely hilarious.
